Lilach Orenstein

Lilach Orenstein is an Activist, Choreographer, Performer and Producer best known for combining diverse types of arts from multiple disciplines into poetical synergies. She is an Israeli immigrant with Yemeni roots based in New York City. Lilach earned her B.Dance from The Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, majoring in choreography, in 2017 and her M.F.A in Dance from The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, in 2019. Among her awards are The Presidential Scholarship (U.Arts), Outstanding Dancer from the Israeli Ministry of Culture and Excellence Award by The Jerusalem Foundation. In May 2021 Lilach founded MOtiVE Brooklyn alongside Meredith Glisson to provide opportunities for independent movement based artists and is serving today as its Co-Director.

Lilach's creations "She Will Come on Her Own", "mUs", "Dancing from Others", "Reject – Receive > React!", "Territorium", "White on White" and "Cēnsēre" were premiered in Israel's main stages and abroad. In 2020 she assisted in choreographing the “The Mother of Us All'' opera which was presented at the Metropolitan Museum featuring vocal artists from The Juilliard School and the NY Philharmonic marking 200 years for women’s suffrage. She was recently invited to residencies and fellowships at New York Live Arts - Fresh Tracks, The Workshop - JTS art fellowship, IMPULSTANZ’s ATLAS program – Vienna, Beam Center - NYC, L1dancefest2019 – Budapest, The Center at West Park – NYC, EMERGENYC 2020 – NY, Derida Dance Center – Sofia and Machol Shalem Dance House (MASH) – Jerusalem.

 

Lilach was MASH production manager during 2015-2018 and produced more than 100 productions across 6 countries, including The Jerusalem International Dance Week, NanoArt and MASH Dance Berlin among others, while working as a stage and rehearsal manager for the Jerusalem Theatre, JAMD, and independent entities. In 2020, she was leading the "In/Between" online and in-person exhibition to support immigrant artists as part of her work in the programming department of NY Live Arts and produced Shamel Pitts’ 2019 benefit event. Currently, Lilach is the Co-Director of MOtiVE Brooklyn and the Production Manager of zoe | juniper's The Other Shore project, which was co-commissioned by Jacob’s Pillow and Carolina Performing Arts most recently presented at MASS MoCA, Jacob’s Pillow and On the Boards.
